Henrietta Lacks Remains a Standout on FYE® Circuit with ONU Adoption

Henrietta Lacks TPOhio Northern University in Ada, Ohio will be using The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks for their 2013 Summer Reading Program.  All incoming freshmen are required to read the book prior to arriving on campus, and will participate in small group discussions during Fall Orientation and Convocation.  Students will be given prepared questions to guide their reading.

Named by more than 60 critics as one of the best books of 2010, author Rebecca Skloot tells students the riveting story of Henrietta Lacks, a poor Henrietta Lacks, a poor southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells—taken without her knowledge—became one of the most important tools in medicine.  It has been selected as Common Reading at nearly 150 colleges, universities and “One Book, One City” Reads, including Auburn University, Connecticut College and George Washington University.
