Full Body Burden Adds to Awards Shelf With Colorado Book Award

Full Body Burden TR

Kristen Iversen’s Full Body Burden has received the 2013 Colorado Book Award in the general non-fiction category.  Iversen, the director of the MFA program in creative writing at the University of Memphis, previously won the Colorado Book Award her biography Molly Brown: Unraveling the Myth, which was published in 2011.  The book, which took Iversen 10 years to write, was initially published by Crown in June of 2012.  A paperback version went on-sale on June 4.

Crown originally scheduled Iversen for a modest book tour, but due to growing demand and the book’s acclaim, the author has now spoken in more than twenty states and three countries.  She will be a featured author at the Edinburgh International Book Festival in August.  “It’s controversial. Sometimes funny, often dark, it tells a hidden, secret side of American history and how that history affected the lives of individual people — that is, me — as well as my parents, my siblings, and our horses and dogs and cats,” said Iversen.  “…few people know the story and devastating legacy of the secret Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant, just down the road from my family’s home near Denver. Now they know.”
